Germany

There are thousands of megalithic monuments in Germany. They are well recorded and many good photographs can be viewed at various websites. The prime subject of this group are the cup -and the rare cup and ring- marked boulders associated with these monuments or as isolated boulders. For practical reasons, the name of the land in which the stone lies is given first, followed by the nearest town/village. The cup-marked stones (in German: "Schalensteine" of "Napchensteine") are generally dated in the Bronze Age. The "meaning" of the cup vary considerably from that of the "British" cups (see the first collection in this group: "About the German Cup Stones").
